Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo.

The beautiful Faja da Caldeira de Santo Cristo is situated in the parish of Ribeira Seca, on the north shore of the fabulous island of Sao Jorge, known as the island of cliffs of the Azores Archipelago, and is probably the most famous and beautiful island.

Classified as a Natural Reserve, as its importance and biodiversity, and as a Site of International Importance, Faja da Caldeira de Santo Cristo houses important species of fauna and flora, especially the clams present in the beautiful lagoon. In fact, the Lagoa da Faja de Santo Cristo, a pleasantly warm and calm waters, is home to several natural and interesting species, including birds, promoting landscapes of great fascination.

Here is also located the Chapel of Santo Cristo, dated 1835, today a pilgrimage site on the island, especially around the time of the Feasts of Santo Cristo, annually on the first Sunday in September.

Access to the Faja da Caldeira de Santo Cristo is not easy, yet allows the contemplation of stunning landscapes through its pedestrian access route, known as the Journey of Fajãs.

This Faja is also famous among the many practitioners of Surf and Bodyboard, given the conditions here are good for this type of sport.
